Saturday: Bari
Arrive in Bari or in the nearness, accommodation in Hotel. Dinner and overnight stay.
2° day.
Sunday: Trani – Castel del Monte – Bari.
Breakfast and leaving to Trani. Visit of the historical centre: Cathedral, one of the most significant monuments of the Romanesque architecture in Apulia, dedicated to San Nicola Pellegrino, it is defined “The Queen of the Churches in Apulia”, Castle of Federico II, Duomo, etc. Tour continues toward Castel del Monte. Here you can visit the Castle of Federico II. The plan is shaped like an octagonal crown with eight towers. The originality of the work is represented by the sixteen rooms shaped like a trapezium, eight for each floor of the building, linked in vertical way by three stairs. In the afternoon come back to Bari and visit of the city. Return in hotel, dinner and overnight stay.
3° day.
Monday: Castellana Grottoes – Alberobello.
After breakfast, departure for Castellana Grottoes. Visit of the Grottoes of Castellana. The most known whole spelaeologic of all Italy. Tour continues toward Alberobello. Visit of the Trulli’s Capital. Come back to the hotel, dinner and overnight stay.
4° day.
Tuesday: Ostuni – Lecce.
After breakfast departure toward Lecce. A short stop in Ostuni, for visit its ancient village. Arrive to Lecce and visit of the historical centre, Castle of Carlo V, Cathedral, S. Croce, etc. Accomodation in Hotel in Lecce, dinner and overnight stay.
5° day.
Wednesday: Otranto – S.C. Terme – S. M. di Leuca.
After breakfast, leave for Otranto, the most eastern town of Italy. You continue following the Adriatic coast, with a short stop in S.C. Terme, it is situated on a terrace of the cliff, it is known also for its springs which can be curative. You go on toward S.M. di Leuca. Visit of the Sanctuary and of the wonderful little town. Return to the hotel, dinner and overnight stay.
6° day.
Thursday: Gallipoli.
Breakfast and leave in Gallipoli. Visit of the Castle, the Cathedral and the Hellenistic Fountain. Afternoon: free. Come back to the hotel, dinner and overnight stay.
7° day.
Friday: Taranto.
After breakfast leave for Taranto. Main Town of province, it rises on the Ionian Sea, at the western ends of the isthmus, which link the salentina peninsula to the continent. It is known as “the town of the two seas”, because the old town occupies the isle, included between the two canals of communication, between the heavy sea, called “Mar Grande”, and a large lagoon with two basins, called “Mar Piccolo”. Furthermore, you can visit: the town-walls, dated at the half of the V sec. A.C., the ruins of the Doric Temple situated in the area of Piazza Castello, dated at the first quarter of the VI sec a.C., Villa Peripato, in which there is a museum of the subsoil, the Oceanographic Museum, which has numerous specimens of marine fauna, the navy shipyard, the National Museum with numerous and valuable Greek, Messapica and Romans works. It is of fundamental importance for the knowledge of the Magna Greece Art, the Cathedral of San Cataldo, built about in the 1000 and it was changed many times. The Church of San Domenico Maggiore, rebuilt in the first 400, the church of San Pasquale is a further example of baroque art and the CONCATTEDRALE which is a work of Gió Ponti (1971). Noteworthy the palaces situated in the other areas of Taranto. In the afternoon, come back to Lecce. Dinner and overnight stay.
8° day.
